Questions
Which languages does it understand?
Any language Apple supports for on-device dictation. You choose the spoken language with the language button at the top of the record screen, before you record or import. The app remembers your choice for next time.
iOS 26 or later (NS Record 1.0.1 and later): every supported language is listed. Languages that aren't on your iPhone yet show a download icon, and download automatically the first time you choose one.
iOS 18: the app can use the languages already on your iPhone. To add one, go to Settings › General › Keyboard › Keyboards, add a keyboard for that language with Dictation on, and wait for its dictation download to finish.
If you chose the wrong language, tap the language name on the next screen to transcribe the recording again in another language.
Translation works between the languages supported by Apple's on-device translation.
It says a language "can't be transcribed on this iPhone yet"
Your iPhone needs that language's speech model first. On iOS 26 or later, update NS Record to 1.0.1 or later and choose the language in the app: it downloads automatically. On iOS 18, go to Settings › General › Keyboard, make sure Enable Dictation is on, and add the language under Dictation Languages. Once it has downloaded, try again.
Does it need an internet connection?
No. Recording, transcription and translation all happen on your iPhone. The only time a connection is needed is to download a language the first time you use it, for speech or for translation.
That first download comes from Apple and can take a few minutes, depending on the language and your connection. The app shows when it's happening, and you can tap Download now on the Translate screen to fetch a language in advance, for example on Wi-Fi before a trip. It only happens once per language.
Are my recordings uploaded anywhere?
No. Recordings, transcripts and translations are stored only inside the app on your iPhone. Nothing is sent to NoiseSoft, and there is no account. Read the privacy policy for details.
What happens if I get a phone call while recording?
Everything recorded so far is saved the moment the call comes in. When the call ends, recording carries on in the same recording; if iOS doesn't allow that in the background, it continues as soon as you return to the app. The transcript marks where recording resumed.
Connecting or disconnecting headphones or AirPods doesn't interrupt a recording.
Can I transcribe something from Voice Memos or Files?
Yes. In Voice Memos or Files, tap Share and choose NS Record (look under More if it isn't in the first row). You can also tap Import on the record screen. M4A, MP3, WAV and AIFF files work.
How do I export or share a transcript?
Open the transcript and tap the share button. Choose plain text, PDF, Word, Markdown, SRT subtitles, or the audio together with the text, and pick what to include: the original, the translation and timestamps. Then copy it, mail it, save it to Files or share it anywhere.
How do I delete a recording?
In the Library, swipe left on a recording and tap Delete. On the record screen, tap Clear and choose Delete recording. Deleted recordings can't be recovered.
Can I edit the transcript?
Yes. Open the transcript and tap the pencil to edit the text. Tap the title to rename the recording.
What do I need to run it?
An iPhone with iOS 18 or later. Downloading speech languages inside the app needs iOS 26 or later.
How do I get a refund?
Purchases are handled by Apple, so refunds are requested from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. If something isn't working, please email us first. We'd like the chance to fix it.
